Upcoming Workshops and Classes

  • Special Toys for Tots Doll Quilt Workshop - Tuesday, October 16, 2018, 9:30am-2pm, St John's Church, Boalsburg
  • Please bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies including a neutral thread, along with a rotary cutter. We will have kits available for you to sandwich and quilt. We are asking for donations of material (large pieces only) for this workshop (24" by 24" and larger). Please wash and press your material before donating. If a few of you who are planning to attend would bring quilting pins, irons, ironing boards, cutting boards and rulers that would be appreciated. (If bringing these items please contact Jill or Debbie). Would you like to cut and pin instead of sew? We have room for you, let us know. Last year we completed approximately 50 doll quilts at this workshop! Please join us for the fun of quilting together for Toys For Tots. Collection of completed doll quilts will continue until December 1st. Please make doll quilts 24" by 24" and larger. Larger crib quilts are always appreciated. Thank you from Jill Wisniewski and Debbie Barrick.

  • November Day Meeting/Workshop - Wednesday, November 14, 2018, 10am-3pm, Interpretive Center at the Transfer Station
Jared Box Pillow Case Workshop is the first in our Community Sewing Series, one of our service projects.
  • The Jared Box Project's mission is to "..lift the spirits of sick children in the hospital with well wishes, hope, and love...". Did you know that the Jared Project began in State College and is now international? Join us for a day of sewing fun themed pillowcases for sick children.

We will be using the Burrito Pillowcase Method to make the pillowcases. The instructions can be found at this pillowcase instructions link. I will also have some printed instructions available at the meeting.

The standard size pillowcase requires a 26.5" x 41" rectangle for the the pillowcase body and a 10" x 41" strip of fabric for the band, in coordinating colors. I have purchased fabric for the service project, but please feel free to bring some cheery fabric that would bring a smile to a child’s face. I know that as quilters, we’ll come up with some stunning combinations! I have prepared precut fabric for the workshop, but we can also cut additional pillowcase sets at the workshop.

Cindy Kolarik, a representative for the Jared Pillowcase Project will give a brief presentation, explaining the history of the service organization at the beginning of our workshop.

I will have the fabric cut to size and I’ll demonstrate the assembly of a pillowcase before we begin our individual pillowcases. If you’re donating fabrics, you may want to have your fabric prepared as well, but I will have a cutting mat available.

Materials needed: Basic sewing supplies, sewing machine, threads in neutral colors, rotary cutter, pressing surface, portable iron, and any other items that you like to have on hand during a sewing service project.

Please contact Susan DeMetrick with any questions.

We will break for lunch and social at noon, with the business meeting at 12:30. Bring a sack lunch. A full kitchen is available at the Interpretive Center.

Reminder: Please wear your name tag so our members (both old and new) can greet you by name!
